They probably heard Palin read sports scores as a TV talking head without stumbling and didn't think that proved she was ready for the NFL either.
agree. biden wins. she took a bunch of cheap shots and biden seems classier.
pretending to have a clue about foreign policies is laughable.
other than that, did I feel like she is capable of being a vp? no
Absolutely. She spent the whole night pointing fingers without outlining anything specific that she stood for, and then condemned the finger pointing from the other side.
When confronted with questions that she obviously hadn't rehearsed an answer for, she ignored them entirely and gave a wishy washy campaign commercial. Imagine if, god forbid, another attack occurs on the US. Is she going to come on the television and start talking about Barack Obama's energy policy like a robot?
She effectively neutered the moderator, which hurts her position amongst thinking people who actually care about the specific issues we're facing. But for the people who are just looking for rhetoric that strikes their emotions, she gave them what they wanted.
without outlining anything specific that she stood for
Actually one specific thing came up. Her unprecedented agreement with Biden on treating same-sex couples as equals, from a civil rights standpoint, to their traditionally married counterparts. Quite a revelation from a VP candidate caught like a deer in the headlights.
I wish Alaska would take her back. This was so pitiful and insulting to me as a female,I remember her type in high school and college but this is serious business and her winking, nodding and using adjectives and folklore may work when she is sitting around with the good ole boys but not in my American White House. Shame on you-Sarah. Hopefully she will not make it to the White House-GOD FORBID-and i say a prayer everyday regarding this issue!!
She and spouse have the financial standing, where she does not need to work, she needs to be home with her children and enjoy them, if she does not do so, it will come back to bite her later and she will have regrets. Go home Sarah-while you have a chance.
Alaska needs to vote her out of office. This female needs to be toned down a few pegs for her own good and for her children. Many females have ambition but choose to sacrifice for their children. God gave them to her and he can take them away! It will not work, her and mccain in white house.
I was pleased when CNN focus group said this did not sway their choice and the majority said it was not Republicans, this gave me some hope, but i know there are others that will vote for her just because she is female, wrong way to vote for anyone,male/female.
Joe Biden is a gentleman and would not have insulted himself, his wife or her by doing something stupid? Intentionally or not! It is called maturity and his family should be proud of him.
He is getting senile and she will not be able to answer the phone at 3am-with the correct reply, unless her spouse will be answering!!!!
Hey, I'm just wondering....who's running Alaska while she's gone? She claims to be such an effective, strong, issue-driven, remarkably competent leader that I can't imagine how they're managing without her. Not to mention her children, they have no mother to guide them especially her newborn son who needs HER nurturing not her 7 year old daughter's!!
Hey, I'm just wondering....who's running Alaska while she's gone?
The McCain campaign.
gosh, geez, I betcha..........
This was so unprofessional, can you imagine her speaking like this to world leaders?
I think the only thing she proved yesterday is that she is still an embarrassment for America.
Biden......Bravo! Hands down the winner!
Should McCain win, please someone get a photo of Nancy Regan's expression when Sarah Palin moves the taxidermied animals into the White House!
You know who else talked in such a homespun manner that it fooled people - GW Bush. There are people who like it when a politician appears folksy and plain talking -- and Palin does that well. Some people tend to let such a politician's weaknesses slide because they think, "He/she is like me and the people I know." She knows this well. Why do you think she peppers her speech with such expressions and uses terms like "Joe Sixpack" and "Hockey Mom"? She apparently learned something in those journalism and communications courses she took, even if these tools don't help her much in a less controlled interview situation, like with Couric and Gibson. However, she's great at canned stuff and repeating talking points and answering questions the way she wants to -- which seems to mean not answering most of them. Let's hope that Americans will see through these superficialities so that they "don't get fooled again," in the words of an old song.
You do realize, of course...
It doesn't matter what the Anchorage Daily News says... Palin doesn't read it, or apparently any other newspapers.
In all seriousness... Palin's performance (in my opinion):
In short, Palin succeeded... in doing nothing.
Sarah Palin has also succeeded... in making Dan Quayle look smart. (Well, smarter.)
I would add
Some of the answers she proferred were merely the longest and most excruciatingly convoluted run-on sentences that I had ever heard spoken.
"Maverick" was a Ford auto. Sort of like an old Dodge "Dart". From the heyday of Detroit dominance of gas guzzlers and lo-tech. Weird coincidence? Didn't it bite the dust in '72?
Some of the answers she proferred were merely the longest and most excruciatingly convoluted run-on sentences that I had ever heard spoken.
bluehohnnyd, I agree with you. I find her pattern of speech to be difficult to follow and tiring to listen to.
It seemed to me that she was in a hurry to get the words out of her mouth before she forgot what she was supposed to say.
Didn't it bite the dust in '72?
Actually, the Maverick was kinda like a poor man's Mustang... but without the power, style, and bravado. In other words, just a rinky-dink little car. It lasted until 1977.
I drove a '73 Maverick for a couple years. Not too bad on gas... but back then we don't care much about gas economy... when you could buy it for 30-some cents per gallon.
This is where she started to lose it, when asked about Cheney's view of the office as part Legislative, part Executive
we will do what is best for the American people in tapping into that position and ushering in an agenda that is supportive and cooperative with the president's agenda in that position.
Obviously not one of her prepared talking points. She made no apologies for not answering the questions, and tried to deliver a stump speech. Ifill was finally able to ask her a question that was off-script, and she sounded like Bush defining a Sovereign Entity. Eventually she fell back on the only point she hadn't checked off her notecard, her experience as Executive of Alaska (and that supports her argument how??).
And was I dozing off due to her unintelligible speaking, or did she actually tout being on the PTA as relevant experience for the vice presidency?
I loved Biden's response to Palin's answer to that VP question. He said flat out the Article of the constitution, (well he said A 1, it is really A 2 but anyway) defines the office of the President and the VP and that Dick Cheney has been the MOST DANGEROUS VP in all of US history. He didn't babble, he didn't evade, he flat out said it was dangerous and that Palin remarks confirms that she would follow Cheney's lead. WOW.
That was powerful! That one had me yelling, "Gooooooooo get 'em, Joooooooooooe!"
I did not get to see the debate when it was on, but I saw parts of it after 10 p.m. From what it sounds, she came across more prepared & more relaxed than she did in the interviews she had before. The only thing that really tells me is that her advisors made sure she was prepped with a lot of things to say without sounding too phony or dumb. However, the truth about her cannot be glossed over with one debate. She does not have the experience or the background to be VP. She merely said what people told her to say because I'm sure they didn't want a replay of the Katie Couric interview. Biden may have his bad moments, but overall, he's a lot smarter and more intelligent than Palin ever could be. Again, who would you rather have running this country if either of the presidential nominees were not able to perform their job as president? Palin or Biden? The choice is still pretty clear to me.
And I am astounded about all the talk about likeability. Palin has been ruthless in her short and limited political career. Banning books, stealing money from taxpayers by submiting bogus expense reports, supporting the bridge to nowhere and keeping the money, etc. Wow...people need to focus on character and issues. Sad that so many don't. This isn't a middle school student council election.
This isn't a middle school student council election.
But it's looking more like one.
The GOP has NOTHING else to hang their hats on! Soccer mom, prepare to get in the minivan and drive back to the great white north...defeated!
Obama/Biden
Dave, your wish has come true! I couldn't agree more. I was not a Palin fan and for more reasons than just because she was anti-choice on women's issues. She ran a smear campaign against Obama and for that, I'll never like her. Thankfully, there were people who were smart enough to vote for the right guy. I think McCain knew he never really had a chance. He seemed to be going through the motions and not much more.
I've done school plays: Sarah knew her lines and made eye contact, but "Romeo and Juliet" without understanding the meaning and passion behind the words is a bad sitcom. Yes, she deserves her congratulatory trip to McDonalds because she didn't vomit or fall walking across the stage, but from then on it was a lack-luster performance that solidified the perceptions that he is a parrot in nylons. She shouldn't even be allowed to drive down Pennsylvania Avenue much less work there.
Did anyone catch her comment about expanding the powers of the Vice President? Does she think Cheney sits outside the Senate doors waiting to be called in to break a tie vote? If she thinks the Bush-Cheney administration kept the VP role to pomp and circumstance then we are all in trouble - regardless of your party position.
Let's also not forget that the VP will need to be shoulder to shoulder with the Secretary of State in building back the destroyed foreign relations while the President is forced to be domestic in addressing the economic disaster we are in right now.
They must be part of that msm contingent!! That's the only explanation
Wink, kiss, wink, wink, "betcha", "up here in Alaska", "by-golly", "I'm a soccer mom,", blew kiss, send shout out, wink, smack, smack, smack, "Maverick", "Maverick", "maverick", "I don't want to answer that question..." ramble, ramble, ramble...."as Mayor of Alaska with my executive experience..," "Vice Presidents reside over the Senate." (Yeh...in case of a tie), "VP should have more power...as VP I'd want more power," (OMFG!) blink, blink, wink, wink..."Me and Todd," "soccer, soccer", "John McCain is a maverick," "I'm like, I'm like, I'm like..," "yep," "yep," "I beat cha," "well I tell ya," ramble, ramble, rant, ramle. Lose train of though, "John McCain is a Maverick," Smile, wink, ramble, ramble, drift, wink, wink, kiss, smack, smack, "Well, I tell ya..." "John McCain is a maverick." Cutsie, cutsie, cutsie...more nonsense run-on sentences.
D'Uh
Palin is the silliest, most ignorant liar and TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED Bobble-HEAD of ALL TIME. Ever. And SOooooooo Many try to LEGITIMIZE this COMPLETE moron!
Talk about caring for your country.
Boy, terrorists can't wait. And we think 9-11 was bad.
Here comes Palin. Americans whom support this woman is are IDIOTS.
Imagine this moron with her hand on the "red button,"--well actually it may be Todd Palin's hand...since he actually called the shots in populationless Alaska.
No substance. Nothing. This woman can be President of the United States of America.
McCain has made a joke out of Americans and American politics. And is BLANTANTLY playing on the STUPIDITY of so many people. Are we all this stupid? Really.
This is serious folks. This is serious.
Terrorist have their fingers crossed.
Yeah, and we need much more than a hockey Mom in the White House. I've never quite understood why that should be a plus for her. To make her seem like the average American isn't going to boost the confidence of voters, but there are many right-wingers who seem to think she's God's gift to the political scene. So she didn't have an abortion. Does that make her anymore qualified? No, it just means she was too dumb to use birth control. Her daughter doesn't have the best role model does she?
You're right -- this is serious!! What really firghtens me is that the Republican so-called stategists think she's good for the country. That tells me about how much they love this country. They are willing to talk up a possible leader who doesn't have a clue. Shame on the Pat Buchanans, the Rush Limbaughs, the Shawn Hannities and a host of others.
We've got to do whatever we need to do to get people out to vote and to vote early because I think the Repubs will continue to do their dirty antics in Nov. at the polls. We are laughing at her and McCain BUT if we let our guards down, they could actually get in there and it won't be at all funny then. Another 4 years of idiotic leadership will send us to depths that I don't even want to think about!!!!!
Palin should go home to raise and nurture her children instead of dragging them around at all hours of the night for photo-ops.....disgusting.
Conservative beliefs or not, you couldn't possibly buy her Mrs Gomer Pyle act! "Dang right!" "Heck yeah!" "Schazaam!" What a load of bull!
As someone wrote, these times are way too serious to see a Vice Presidential "candidate" wrinkling up her nose and smiling for the cameras! We're in trouble people! Recognize!
Palin impaled herself and McCain last night! Have a great career in the private sector!
